Nutrition a cornerstone of people’s livelihood-Kaoma DC

Mr Makoba has since called for commitment and collaboration among all stakeholders implementing nutrition programmes in the district in order to reduce stunting levels in Kaoma and Zambia at large. He was speaking in Kaoma during the District Nutrition Coordinating Committee (DNCC) meeting. “For me I think it’s a cardinal issue, when you’re dealing with nutritional programmes, it’s a cornerstone for the lives of people within the country.

We need to expand it beyond boundaries and this is why it is important for us to work together to reduce the stunting levels the country has”, he said. Kaoma District Food and Nutrition Coordinator, Maybin Mwangala, called for the use of the foot and nutrition stakeholders mapping tool for easy identification of key actors to ensure coordination effectiveness and sustainability of nutritional activities. Mr Mwangala noted that stakeholders mapping also helps to address the multifaceted nature of malnutrition and also gives geographical and operational insights of stakeholders in the area and enhances collaboration with the government.

“This is the document that we use as a district to map all stakeholders who are playing a key role in implementing food and nutrition activities. Food and nutrition stakeholders mapping is a process of identifying stakeholders collaborating with the government in food and nutrition matters. It identifies key actors collaborating with the government.

Ensure coordinated, effective and sustainable nutrition interventions”, Mr Mwangala noted. Meanwhile, Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) expressed commitment towards improving nutritional standards in different communities of Kaoma District which include Namaloba, Mangango, Kasabi and Chitwa through generative agriculture activities, post-harvest management among others. ADRA Project Officer in the district, Alick Mvula, disclosed that the institution has made positive stride under the Transformative Emergency Response for Nutrition Improvement in Zambia (TERNIZA) two years’ project in which 7, 445 farmers out of the 7507 targeted number have been validated. The meeting was attended by the department of health, agriculture, water development and natural resources, Fisheries and Livestock as well as ADRA, Kaoma Wise Trust among others.
