Nsumbu hospital nears completion

The construction of Nsumbu Hospital in Nsama district in Northern Province has reached 98 percent completion. Northern Province Health Director, Ernest Mutale, who confirmed the development in an interview with the media in Kasama, said the hospital is expected to be commissioned this year. Professor Mutale has revealed that all necessary equipment has already been installed and tested at the health facility.

He said the hospital will be fully equipped with modern equipment in all departments, including the theatre, and laboratories which have been fitted with the latest digital machines. Mutale said the new hospital will help improve access to health services for the people of Nsumbu. He explained that currently, the local people still travel long distances to as far as Kasama General Hospital for specialised services.

Mutale has since expressed gratitude to the government through the Lake Tanganyika Development Project for spearheading the construction of the health facility, noting that the hospital will provide vital services closer to the community. The construction of Nsumbu hospital is funded by the Lake Tanganyika Development Project.
