NSFAS has disbursed over R6 billion to support students in higher education, ensuring financial access for thousands. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) announced on Thursday that it has disbursed over R6 billion to support students in accessing higher education. NSFAS said it aims to ensure that no deserving student is denied access to education due to financial constraints.

In a statement, NSFAS said, โ€œOne of the most critical aspects of our mandate is the timely and efficient disbursement of financial aid. We understand that the start of the academic year is a time of hope and anticipation, but also anxiety for students and families who depend on NSFAS support.โ€ For TVET colleges, disbursements have also been significant. โ€œThese investments are not just numbers; they represent our commitment to removing financial barriers and creating an enabling environment for academic success,โ€ NSFAS added.

โ€œNSFAS remains dedicated to ensuring that all eligible students have access to the financial support required to pursue their studies,โ€ it stated. โ€œWe appreciate the cooperation of applicants and encourage those with outstanding issues to visit our website or contact our support centres for assistance.โ€ NSFAS stated that its work is supported by close collaboration with institutions to ensure a smooth registration process. Students who do not meet academic progression or financial eligibility can file an appeal with the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). An appeal may be granted on the grounds of a medical condition, traumatic event, or propensity to complete a qualification.
