South African swimming iconChad le Clos, who has been representing the nation at the Commonwealth Games, revealed he lost his home during a devastating fire in Cape Town last week. The fire broke out in the Dorchester apartment building in High Level Road, Sea Point, on July 30. At the time of the fire, crews from several fire stations attended to the blaze on the top floor of the building, which resulted in the collapse of the roof.
Firefighters battled the blaze throughout the night. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. While his home, for more than a decade, was burning, le Clos, 34, was breaking an all-time Commonwealth record in Glasgow, Scotland.
The swimming icon took to Instagram on Tuesday to confirm the devastating news. “It has taken me a while to process this heartbreaking tragedy. On the evening of 30 July, amidst breaking the all-time Commonwealth record, a fire started in my apartment block, which quickly spread to my home.

Sadly my home, where I’ve lived for more than a decade, burnt down and there is nothing left to salvage. [sic]” He also conveyed his condolences to his neighbour who tragically lost his life during the fire.
