Nkhata Bay South Constituencyengages council on CDF projects

Nkhata Bay South legislator Emily Chinthu-Phiri (UTM Party) has underscored the importance of collaboration between community structures and elected leaders to ensure efficient management of Constituency Development Fund (CDF). She said this on Monday when she led area development committee chairpersons, traditional leaders and councillors to a meeting with Nkhata Bay District Council secretariat on their priority projects for funding under the K5 billion CDF. The closed door meeting focused on how to successfully implement CDF-funded projects in the area.

It follows three consultative meetings in the area aimed at discussing the needs of the people under CDF and donor-funded projects. Speaking after the meeting, Chinthu Phiri said it was imperative that communities and duty-bearers work together to achieve meaningful development. “Unity is a tool for development.

If there is no unity people cannot be strong. Coming together has really cemented what people on the ground,” she said. Chinthu-Phiri said she was ready to work with the council to complement government’s efforts in developing the district and the country at large.
