A 22-year-old mother from Nketa 8 in Bulawayo is appealing for US$15 000 to enable her two-month-old son to undergo life-saving heart surgery in India. Nokuthaba Nkomo said her baby, Ona, was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect shortly after he was born on 9 December 2025. Speaking to CITE, she said her son began experiencing breathing difficulties soon after birth.
“What we first thought was something minor turned out to be heartbreaking news. Doctors discovered he has a hole in his heart and needs life-saving surgery,” said Ms Nkomo. She said doctors advised that the specialised procedure was not available locally and recommended treatment in India.
“Doctors have advised that Baby Ona must travel to India, where the procedure can be performed. The total cost for surgery, hospitalisation, medical care and travel expenses is approximately $15,000,” she said. The funds would cover surgery, hospital stay, medical costs and travel-related expenses.

Ms Nkomo said she is unemployed and unable to raise the money on her own. “Despite my strength and love, this cost is far beyond my means,” she said. “We are humbly asking for your support, whether through a donation or any other means, to give my baby a chance to live a healthy life.
Every contribution, no matter how small, brings hope.” Those willing to assist can contact Ms Nkomo on 0715 719 504, which is also her InnBucks number, or send EcoCash donations to 0779 918 876, registered under Josephine Dlomo.
