Nine pupils sustained injuries after their taxi T-boned a bakkie in Lena Ahrens Road near Rhodes Avenue in Glenwood, Durban while on their way home from school on Monday afternoon. ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the South African Police Service (Saps) did respond to the incident and will be investigating the cause of the crash, which was not apparent at the scene. Jamieson said the children received medical assistance at the scene, with many first-responders coming to the scene.
The pupils were taken to various hospitals for further treatment. The crash comes as the nation reels from the Vaal scholar transport crash that killed 14 pupils. Since the crash, there has been a renewed interest in getting taxi drivers, infamous for reckless behaviours such as speeding, to abide by the law.
