Nine people have been killed and 25 others injured in two related shooting incidents at a school and a nearby home in western Canada, police have confirmed. Seven victims were fatally wounded at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, while two others were found dead at a nearby residence. Authorities have not released the names or ages of the victims.

The suspected attacker was also discovered dead from what officials described as a self-inflicted injury, according to reports carried by theBBC. Police say they have identified the suspect but have not disclosed the individual’s name or gender. Earlier, a shelter-in-place alert described the suspect as a “female in a dress with brown hair.” Authorities have also not revealed the type of firearm used in the attack.

Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney said he was “devastated” by “today’s horrific shootings” in Tumbler Ridge. “My prayers and deepest condolences are with the families and friends who lost loved ones to these horrific acts of violence,” Carney said in a post on X. The Prime Minister said he joined Canadians in mourning and extended his gratitude to the “first responders who risked their lives to protect their fellow citizens.” “I have connected with Premier Eby to express my condolences, and with the Minister of Public Safety, Gary Anandasangaree, who is coordinating the federal response,” he added.
