Among the most significant arrivals is the stunning Uzuri, a six-year-old cheetah who, on 18 November, gave birth to three healthy cubs. As the festive season approaches, Cango Wildlife is experiencing an exhilarating baby boom that epitomises the spirit of renewal and hope. With each new arrival, the facility is reminded that the best kind of holiday celebration is one marked by new life erupting from the hearts of those who call it home.
This noteworthy birth is critical, as Uzuri’s lineage is part of an internationally managed breeding programme aimed at preserving genetic diversity in cheetahs, a species in peril. The cubs, named Afrika, Aston, and Amandla, are beginning to showcase their distinct personalities that reflect their beauty and potential. Afrika, the spirited female cub, is already making waves.
Her confident and curious nature has quickly gained her a reputation as a sassy little character—one who embodies the resilience and independence of her ancestral homeland. Aston, the gentle heart of the trio, has a softer temperament and embodies grace. Her name, meaning “awe-inspiring,” captures the significance of female cheetahs in securing the future of the species.

Lastly,the only male, Amandla, is aptly nicknamed’the big softy’, displaying a relaxed demeanor and a penchant for peaceful slumber amidst his lively sisters. Together, these cubs not only mark a heartwarming milestone at Cango Wildlife but are also vital contributors to the long-term survival of one of Africa’s most iconic species. Owl season arrived slightly later than usual this year, bringing four young owls into care.
In addition to the cheetahs, the aviaries have welcomed significant new life in the form of two Rainbow Lorikeet hatchlings. Safely ensconced in their nest box, the chicks are nurtured and protected by their attentive parents. The experienced keepers are maintaining a careful distance, recognising the importance of minimal disturbance during this crucial stage of development.
This season has also brought with it the arrival of four young owls, part of what has been an unusually busy owl season. Rescued by concerned citizens, these Spotted Eagle Owls and a Barn Owl were discovered grounded and unable to fend for themselves. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Cango Wildlife’s team, the owls are responding well to rehabilitation and are being prepared for release back into the wild.
The Barn Owl arrived underweight but quickly regained condition and began feeding independently. Among the most delicate rescues was a miniature Cape Serotine bat, brought in after a narrow escape with a cat. Weighing in at just one gram upon arrival, he is a testament to the importance of timely intervention in wildlife rescue.
Under close monitoring, he is recovering remarkably, now weighing eight grams and beginning to show signs of preparing for flight. As if the magic of this season couldn’t get any better, Cango Wildlife has also expanded its Farmyard section with the arrival of six delightful Silkie chickens. These lively young birds are learning to forage and explore their surroundings, set to share space with charming Netherland Dwarf Rabbits. Together, these animals add warmth and joy to the experience of visitors, paralleling the opening of the newly established Boa Cafe, which highlights the significance of animal welfare in the mission of Cango Wildlife.
