The altercation, which involved punches and kicks, occurred along the Ndola–Kitwe Dual Carriageway, leading to the arrest of the motorist involved. According to Copperbelt Province Commanding Officer Mwala Yuyi, the suspect, identified as Emmanuel Njovu, 32, has been arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer, an offence under Section 250(c), Chapter 87 of the Penal Code of the Laws of Zambia. The officer involved, Constable George Ilyamupu, 31, stationed at Hillcrest Police Post, allegedly sustained body pains after being struck with fists and kicks during the confrontation.

Police reports indicate that the incident began when Constable Ilyamupu stopped Njovu’s Toyota Ractis (BCG 4472) for failing to obey traffic signs. After being directed to park off the road, Njovu reportedly became aggressive, claiming the officer was delaying him as he was heading to Ndola Teaching Hospital, where he works as a Clinical Officer. When instructed to proceed to Hillcrest Police Post for further action, Njovu allegedly turned violent, attacking the officer.

Members of the public intervened to rescue the officer, after which Njovu was arrested and his vehicle impounded. Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi has confirmed that investigations into the matter were ongoing. More details are expected to follow as the case develops.
