National Democratic Congress (NDC) Secretary-General, Mambwe Zimba, has been granted K600,000 bail in his own recognisance after pleading not guilty to transmitting a manipulated image allegedly depicting Hakainde Hichilema lying in a coffin through a Facebook post. Zimba, a 43-year-old businessman of Water Works in Libala South, Lusaka, appeared before the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to one count of prohibition of computer-related misrepresentation and computer fraud under Section 12(1) of the Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025.
According to the indictment, the alleged offence occurred on February 22, 2026, in Lusaka, where Zimba was accused of intentionally and without lawful authority inputting computer data that resulted in inauthentic content. The material in question was a post on a Facebook page titled “Zambia for All 2026,” captioned “Nalumango pays tribute to under five politician”, accompanied by an image portraying the Head of State in a casket. The prosecution contends that the accused intended the post to be treated as authentic.
