Independent aspiring Member of Parliament forNamwala East,Silent Hapompwe, has responded to remarks made by PresidentHakainde Hichilemaduring a recent campaign rally in Namwala. In a video statement, Mr. Hapompwe alleged that the President personally called him and urged him to withdraw his candidature in support of the UPND candidate.

Hapompwe said he declined the request, stating that theConstitution of Zambiagives him the right to contest the parliamentary seat. He added that the confidence and support shown by the people of Namwala East have strengthened his resolve to remain in the race. The independent candidate further alleged that independent and opposition candidates in the constituency are facing intimidation during the campaign period.

He claimed that three vehicles with obscured registration plates have been seen in the area disrupting campaign meetings. According to Mr. Hapompwe, the matter has been reported toNiko Police PostandNamwala Police Station, but no action has been taken so far.
