In a call for proposals issued on 12 January 2026, NAM says the exercise is intended to enhance transparency, accountability and operational efficiency across the country. NAM says the review will also help align its governance framework with the requirements of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, Malawi National Council of Sports as well as World Netball and Africa Netball. According to the terms of reference, the consultancy will involve a detailed assessment of the existing NAM constitution to identify gaps, inconsistencies and areas for improvement.
“Beyond the constitutional review, the successful consultant will draft a wide range of policies, procedures and guidelines covering umpiring, coaching and technical officiation, dispute resolution and disciplinary processes, elections, committee operations, safeguarding, anti-corruption measures, membership structures, voting rights and netball development pathways.” NAM general secretary Yamikani Kauma Khungwa in an interview yesterday said the initiative marks a significant step towards modernising the governance of netball in Malawi and positioning the sport for sustainable growth in line with continental and global standards. She said the process will involve all stakeholders including NAM executive members, district and regional representatives, players, coaches, umpires, ministry of sports officials, auditors and other relevant bodies through workshops, interviews and written submissions. The consultancy is expected to run for four to six months from the date of contract signing.
Khungwa said after the process, a final report will be presented to the NAM leadership and stakeholders for approval at the association’s Annual General Meeting. Malawi netball has for the past decade faced numerous governance challenges which culminated into the Queens losing its status as Africa’s best team and replaced on the world’s top six. Meanwhile, other countries such as Uganda have emerged to overtake the Queens, who recently finished fourth in Africa Netball Cup Malawi at Griffin Saenda Indoor Sports Complex in in Lilongwe in December 2025.
