German 2 Bundesliga outfit Hannover 96 coach Christian Titz says he is impressed with the performance of the club’s Malawian teenage attacker Mwisho Mhango. However, the coach has said there are still some aspects that he needs to work on. Giving an update on the player’s progress in an interview published on the club’s website hannover96.de, Titz said the 2025 Cosafa Under-20 Championship Player of the Tournament and golden boot winner has adapted to the demands of playing in the physical and fast Germany style.

He said the Malawian starlet has developed remarkably, “especially in terms of physicality and intensity”. Mhango has just completed his three-month intergression programme and as part of preparing him for the big stage, he is being featured in practice matches. “I don’t want to make any predictions about Mwisho.

We thought long and hard about what the right path is for him and we came to the conclusion that the high-intensity training sessions with us and the recurring test matches are a good path for him,” Tits was quoted as having said. The manager assessed the Malawian after featuring in a friendly against fellow 2 Bundesliga opponents Kickers Emden recently which Hannover 96 won 3-2. However, the coach could not be drawn to give timelines on when Mhango will be considered for competitive matches, saying he still needs to work on some aspects of his game, citing his footwork off the ball.

But Malawi Under-20 National Football Team coach Millias Pofera Jegwe said he is confident that the player will break into Hannover 96 main team. He said: “I have been keenly following his progress and he is on the right track. I am also in constant touch with the boy.

“He is putting in a lot of effort and is determined to make it big.” Jegwe also said he is impressed with how fast Mhango has adapted to the culture and fottball style. The coach also feels that the player is ready to play for the senior national team. “I met the Flames coach [Kallisto Pasuwa] and recommended that he should consider drafting mwisho into the senior team,” said Jegwe.
