Munowenyu Foundation, Tildah Live donates home BP self-testing machines to thousands of mothers at Harare Gardens

BusinessNewsBy Nigel PfundeHARARE – Thousands of mothers who gathered at Harare Gardens for a pre-Mother’s Day commemoration over the weekend received free home self-testing machines for blood pressure and diabetes, in a joint initiative by the David Munowenyu Foundation, Tildah Live, and Discovery Ambulance Services, Express Mail Zim can report.The event was held ahead of the official Mother’s Day commemorations on May 10 and it also featured entertainment and refreshments for the attendees.Dr David Munowenyu, accompanied by his wife Chantelle, addressed the gathering emphasising the importance of maternal health and the role of mothers in society.The donation is a microcosm of the philanthropic footprint by Discovery Ambulance Services, an organisation that has documented extensive community health interventions across Zimbabwe.Discovery Ambulance Services, under the leadership of David Munowenyu, has a recorded history of bridging healthcare gaps for marginalised communities. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health through the Presidential Emergency Medical Scheme, the organisation has run free mobile clinic outreach programmes in high-density suburbs such as Mbare and Epworth as well as rural districts including Sanyati and Gokwe offering chronic disease screenings and free medication.The organisation has also trained over 2 000 youths in Harare in basic first aid and extended life-saving training to rural villagers equipping them to respond to emergencies before professional help arrives.At the Zion Christian Church shrine in Gokwe, Discovery Ambulance provided medical cover and trained congregants in crowd related emergency response.These initiatives align with the David Munowenyu Foundation and Discovery Ambulance’s work across agriculture, healthcare and social welfare.Speaking to Express Mail Zim at the event, two beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the donation.Esther Mukumba, a vegetable vendor from Mbare said the blood pressure monitor would save her both time and money.“Every week I used to lose a day going to the clinic just to check my blood pressure. Now I can test at home before I start my work.

They have given us something we can use every day,” Mukumba said.Charity Dube, a mother of three from Kuwadzana, said the initiative addressed a neglected aspect of maternal wellbeing.“We worry about our children but forget to check our own hearts. Knowing I have this machine gives me peace of mind.
