Msunduzi Municipality Mayor Mzimkhulu Thebolla has hailed a triple win at the KwaZulu-Natal Municipal Excellence Awards 2026, saying it proves that the municipality is delivering better services and stronger governance for residents. Msunduzi Municipality scooped three awards at the KwaZulu-Natal Municipal Excellence Awards 2026 last week, recognising the City’s work in service delivery coordination, planning and financial governance. Msunduzi took third place in the category for Best Traditional Council in Co-ordinating Service Delivery for its partnership with the Mpumuza Traditional Authority.

It also secured third place for Best Developed Integrated Development Plan (IDP) 2025/26. In addition, the municipality’s entity, Safe City Msunduzi, received a Clean Audit Award from the Auditor-General of South Africa in recognition of sound financial management. Msunduzi was among municipalities recognised for innovation, accountability and commitment to improving residents’ lives during the awards hosted by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) at the Durban International Convention Centre last week.

The event honours municipalities that have made meaningful contributions towards improving the quality of life of communities through effective and dedicated service delivery. Msunduzi Municipality Mayor Mzimkhulu Thebolla said the awards reflect the progress being made by the city in strengthening governance and improving services for residents. “These achievements motivate us to keep building a municipality our residents can trust and be proud of,” said Thebolla, praising teams working across the city in planning, governance and service delivery. He said the recognition serves as encouragement for the municipality to continue improving governance and service delivery.
