The Government has approved a draft bill amending the General Statute of State Employees and Agents, setting the retirement age at 65, replacing the current age of 60. The draft bill, approved at yesterday’s Council of Ministers meeting, also provides for the possibility of extending the exercise of duties on an annual basis, for up to five years, for certain categories, subject to assessment, allowing them to remain in office until the age of 70. Those covered include specialist doctors, university lecturers and researchers.
The new bill also establishes the automation of the retirement separation process. During the same Cabinet session, the Executive approved a decree regulating the rights and duties of the President of the Republic after leaving office.
