The Mozambican President has said that his visit to Ethiopia will help deepen the partnership between the two countries, extending it to the economic and commercial spheres, as well as defence and security. “It was worthwhile for us to have decided to visit Ethiopia. I think we will, without any doubt, work together as two brotherly countries so that our cooperation is not only political and diplomatic, but also economic and commercial, in order to develop our two countries and also to create better living conditions for our two peoples,” the Head of State said, quoted in a statement from the Mozambican Presidency issued on Tuesday (28 April).
According to Daniel Chapo, who has been visiting the African country since Monday, Ethiopia is a continental reference in infrastructure development, urban planning, among other areas. “That is why we believe this visit is extremely important. In agriculture, Ethiopia has already achieved food self-sufficiency, and we consider our presence here extremely important, as well as the issue of defence and security,” the Mozambican Head of State concluded.
On Monday, the Presidency stated in a communiqué that the President of Mozambique had begun a visit to Ethiopia to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, as well as to discuss the political and economic situation. “The visit of the President of the Republic to Ethiopia (…) aims to strengthen the relations of friendship and cooperation existing between the two countries, assess the state of bilateral cooperation, and address the political and economic situation of the two countries, the African continent and the world in general,” reads the statement. Chapo is accompanied, among others, by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria Lucas; Defence, Cristóvão Chume; Economy, Basílio Muhate; and Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries, Roberto Albino.
