“The creation of this multi-sectoral commission aims to define the criteria and methodologies to be applied by the commission, as well as to establish the mechanisms for the transition of human, financial and patrimonial resources assigned to the former inspectorates, (…) including their respective delegations to the new structures,” Inocêncio Impissa explained. Mozambican President Daniel Chapo promulgated the laws in January, approved by parliament the previous month, establishing the General Inspectorate of the State and the General Inspectorate of Food and Economic Security, with the aim of strengthening transparency and credibility.
According to a presidential statement, the reforms are intended to ensure a favourable economic environment and a unified national inspection system capable of protecting the public interest, ensuring legality and consolidating citizens’ and economic agents’ trust in the State. According to Inocêncio Impissa, the decree will apply to all cooperatives operating in Mozambican territory, regardless of their sector, level or corporate purpose.
