Mozambique Grain Institute outlines strategy to intervene as agricultural market buyer to protect small farmers

The session was chaired by the Director-General of the Mozambique Grain Institute, Luís José Jobe Fazenda, and was attended by all provincial delegates and members of the Board of Directors. The meeting formed part of preparations for the institution’s sixth Consultative Council, scheduled to take place today, 30 July, in the same city, with the opening ceremony to be led by Economy Minister Basílio Muhate.

The extraordinary working meeting aimed to strengthen institutional coordination, assess the overall performance of provincial delegations and align operational priorities, taking into account current challenges and the ICM’s new mandate. The meeting also allowed participants to identify the main challenges faced at provincial level and establish guidelines to improve the institution’s capacity to organise the market, support agricultural commercialisation, manage storage infrastructure and build strategic reserves to strengthen food security.
