Mozambique: ExxonMobil-backed Quionga electrification project launched in Palma, Cabo Delgado — Photos

The project, financed by ExxonMobil and Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), was launched by Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Estêvão Pale alongside ExxonMobil Country Director Johanna Boothey, with Cabo Delgado Governor Valige Tauabo in attendance. The project includes the construction of 25 kilometres of medium-voltage power lines, four transformer stations, 6.1 kilometres of low-voltage network, 60 street lighting poles and the connection of 600 new consumers.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Tauabo said that the arrival of electricity from the National Power Grid responds to one of the population’s main aspirations and will boost the development of Quionga, creating better conditions for the operation of schools and health facilities, the preservation and marketing of fish, and the growth of economic activity. For his part, Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Estêvão Pale said the initiative reinforces the Government’s commitment to expanding universal access to electricity, while ExxonMobil reiterated its willingness to continue supporting sustainable development projects in Cabo Delgado.
