Mozambique and Egypt define strategies to boost economic cooperation

Mozambique and Egypt are defining strategies to boost bilateral cooperation, focusing on areas considered priorities, in an initiative aimed at bringing the economic dimension closer to the existing political relations between the two countries. The information was provided by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria Manuela Lucas, at the conclusion of the first Session of Political Consultations between Mozambique and the Arab Republic of Egypt, held in Cairo this Monday (21). According to the official, the two countries reviewed the current status of bilateral cooperation and agreed to strengthen collaboration in sectors such as agriculture, trade, health, education, maritime transport, logistics, and technical-vocational training.

“During our work, we reviewed the current status of bilateral cooperation across different sectors and defined strategies to catapult the economic relationship to the level of the excellent political relations that exist,” she declared. As part of strengthening the bilateral partnership, the parties also agreed to hold the third Session of Political Consultations and planned an official visit by the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Daniel Francisco Chapo, to Egypt. The consultations also allowed the addressing of peace and security issues, with Mozambique welcoming the Egyptian Government’s support for national efforts to combat terrorism, including the technical capacity building of the Defense and Security Forces. Mozambique and Egypt mark 50 years of establishing diplomatic and consular relations this year—a milestone both parties consider a foundation for deepening bilateral cooperation.
