By A Correspondent| motorcyclist died on the spot Thursday morning following a tragic accident along Chiremba Road, once again highlighting the escalating dangers faced by motorcyclists navigating Zimbabwe’s deteriorating and chaotic road network.

Eyewitnesses say the rider, whose identity is yet to be confirmed by authorities, was involved in a collision while trying to maneuver through heavy traffic. The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are under investigation.

“There are no cycle tracks. Motorcyclists are literally gambling with their lives every time they get on the road,” said one rider who arrived shortly after the crash.

“It’s pure luck if you make it home in one piece.”

Zimbabwe’s roads have become increasingly treacherous, plagued by deep potholes, poor signage, and undisciplined driving. For motorcyclists—who lack the physical protection offered by vehicles—these hazards can be deadly.

“Authorities must act now,” urged a local road safety advocate. “We need dedicated motorcycle lanes, public awareness campaigns, and stronger traffic enforcement to stop these avoidable deaths.”

Motorbike use has surged in recent years due to affordability and efficiency, especially amid fuel price hikes.

But infrastructure and policy development have not kept pace, leaving riders vulnerable and unsupported.
