President Emmerson Mnangagwa has handed over 35 vehicles to district development officers under the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, marking the first phase of a 72-vehicle allocation aimed at improving government outreach and operational capacity across the country. The vehicles are expected to enhance mobility, visibility and programme delivery at district level, particularly in the implementation of youth-oriented development initiatives.Speaking at the handover ceremony, President Mnangagwa said the government would ensure that every district benefits from the programme.”This is the first batch of trucks we are giving, but I am assuring them that every district will have their own vehicle. This should increase their visibility,” he said.Youth Empowerment Minister Tino Machakaire welcomed the development, praising the President for strengthening the ministry’s capacity to support young people across Zimbabwe.”Firstly, I would like to thank His Excellency for making this effort in terms of developing the youth constituency,” he said. “This ministry is a new ministry, but we did not have adequate tools of trade, so because of these new vehicles, we will increase visibility.

I want to emphasise that these cars are for work purposes.”Machakaire said the improved district reach would enable the ministry to expand programmes aimed at empowering young people and reducing social challenges such as drug and substance abuse. He added that increasing youth participation in national development was central to the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), which positions young people as key contributors to economic growth. The remaining vehicles from the 72-unit allocation are expected to be rolled out in subsequent phases, ensuring full coverage across the country’s districts.
