Minister says Fisp fertiliser to reach farmers mid-January

Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Decentralisation Joseph Mwanamvekha says Farm Inputs Subsidy Programme (Fisp) beneficiary farmers will redeem their fertiliser by mid this month. The minister, who is also governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vice-president responsible for the South, said this on Saturday during a rally at Mileme Primary School in Traditional Authority Jenala in Phalombe District. Said Mwanamvekha: “I am confident about this because I am the financier.

As Minister of Finance, I know that we have bought the fertiliser. As we speak now, if you go to Chirimba [in Blantyre] and most of the [Smallholder Farmers Fertiliser Revolving Fund of Malawi] depots, there is fertiliser. “You can even check with Smallholder.

We have imported enough fertiliser and we want to ensure that this fertiliser reaches our farmers by mid-January because we want to make sure that everyone applies the fertiliser in good time.” Said Mwanamvekha: “If you remember, President Peter Mutharika presented it in his address [in Parliament]. He indicated that the K5 billion will be included in the 2026/27 National Budget from April. “We will also have the K100 million as loans for the youth and another K100 million for women.” In his remarks, Phalombe North legislator Feston Chauma (DPP) called on the government to rehabilitate the Chitekesa-Mwaanga Road to facilitate easy travel and transportation of farm produce.
