Minister of Youth and Sports Patricia Wiskes has said the K50 million Constrituency Sports Development Fund will roll out in the 2026/27 financial year. For the 229 constituencies it translates to K11.4 billion anually. She said: “We have developed guidelines for management of the K 50 million Sports Development Fund which will be drawn from the K5 billion Constituency Development Fund.

“It is in the pipeline and in the next financial year, we will be good to go.” Wiskes also said the focus in the first 100 days has been to lay a firm foundation for delivering on the DPP manifesto commitments of sports, youth development and culture. ‘First, we undertook a rapid sector assessment to align the DPP manifesto with practical, cost actions. “Secondly, we have re-engaged national sports associations and councils, restoring structured dialogue and accountability.

We have issued clear policy guidance to ensure transparency, good governance and fair access to opportunities for athletes, especially women and youth, in line with the manifesto.” On infrastructure, the minister said within the 100 days, they have begun an audit of sports facilities nationwide, including community grounds and major stadia. “In youth and sports development, we have strengthened school–to–community sports pathways, working closely with the Ministry of Education to revive competitions and talent scouting at district level,” she said. “Additionally, we are working with the Ministry of Education to reintroduce physical education as a standalone subject in schools.
