According to figures prepared from the Health and Child Care ministry (Midlands cholera situational report) as of January 28, 2024, Mberengwa district had recorded 204 cases followed by Zvishavane (141) and Gokwe North (74), respectively. “Cumulative suspected cases by district (for the period) 16 April (2023) to January 28, Chirumanzu (40), Gokwe North (74), Gokwe South (9), Gweru (11), Kwekwe (16), Mberengwa (204), Shurugwi (0) and Zvishavane (141),” read the report.
According to the report the cumulative suspected cases for the province during the same period is 495 with 449 recoveries and 33 deaths.
Of the cumulative suspected deaths as at January 28 this year, Mberengwa recorded the highest with 11 fatalities, Zvishavane (10), Chirumanzu (7), Kwekwe (4) and Gokwe South (1).
Zimbabwe has recorded 21 230 suspected cholera cases, 2 368 confirmed cases, 20 552 recoveries, 71 confirmed deaths and 405 suspected deaths as at January 28 this year.
The country has since rolled out cholera vaccination to curb the spread of the waterborne disease with at least 2,3 million people expected to receive the doses. 🔗 Read Full Article
