THE Millers Association of Zambia (MAZ) says the current increase in mealie meal prices is normal due to the fact that farmers have sold their produce and are now consuming commercially produced mealie meal. In some parts of Lusaka, a 25 Kg bag of breakfast mealie meal is fetching between K280 and K300, after recently seeing a decrease of between K200 and K240. In an interview, Wednesday, Association Chairperson Andrew Chintala confirmed that prices had indeed started going up, stating that the increase in the commodity’s price was due to the fact that grain prices had also started rising.
