MEDICINES Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) executive director Richard Tendayi Rukwata has applauded CMCOMMS for receiving a continental award.

CMCOMMS is a practical competence-based continuous professional development programme covering the disciplines of medicine, logistics and good practices.

The organisation was recently awarded the Outstanding Achievement in the Humanitarian and Health Supply Chain Management Category at the Africa Supply Chain Supply Excellence Awards.

The award, presented on August 7 this year, celebrated CMCOMMS’s commitment to ensuring integrity in the medical supply chain, a critical factor in improving healthcare access for Africans.

In a congratulatory message to CMCOMMS Supply Chain Quality Assurance and its founder and managing consultant, Wilson Chandomba, Rukwata praised the company’s work. “Your commitment to supply chain integrity of medical products on the African continent is commendable and inspiring,” he said.

Rukwata also applauded the MCAZ’s association with CMCOMMS, indicating that their achievements contributed to better access to quality healthcare for Africans. “MCAZ is proud to be associated with you and wishes you even greater success and recognition in this critical field because your success directly and indirectly translates to better access to quality healthcare for all Africans. “CMCOMMS has pioneered initiatives such as the globally accredited Medical Logistics Practitioner Training Programme, which trains logistics providers, customs agents, freight forwarders and pharmaceutical wholesalers in Good Storage and Distribution Practices (GSDP). “The organisation also advocates for GSDP-compliant policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and reduce SFMP risks. ” In July this year, CMCOMMS was appointed to the Africa Continental Technical Working Group on substandard and falsified medical products (SFMPs) and named chairperson of its communications sub-group, further solidifying its role in shaping continental health supply chain standards.

In a statement, CMCOMMS said the award was not just an honour but a call to action. “Lives depend on robust supply chains and we will continue pushing for professionalisation, stronger port handling, and systemic improvements to safeguard health products,” it said.

The company also said it remained focused on expanding GSDP training for supply chain stakeholders, advocating for stringent port handling protocols to prevent SFMP infiltration while supporting African nations in implementing compliant supply chain systems.
