Reggae-dancehall artist Anne Matumbi says he plans to transition his Julie music series to the motion screen.

His remarks come after the singer released Julie Part 11, which features Mulanje West constituency parliamentarian Patricia ‘Akweni’ Kaliati, 23 years after the release of Julie Part 1.

Ane Matumbi said in an interview yesterday: “From the onset, my idea was to evolve the series into a movie. I hatched this idea while in primary school. But at the time, it was almost impossible for locals to produce a film. As I grew, I decided to put the narrative into a song.

“The plan is still alive in me. I want to give people a chance to appreciate these stories in a motion picture. I am hoping that individuals and companies will be open to partner me in this project.”

same comic DNA the series have been known for. Ane Matumbi maintains his Maliseni character in the narrative which tackles men’s tendency of rushing to make romantic approaches to every woman they encounter on social media.

In Julie Part 11, Maliseni is at fault for blindly making overtures to Akweni, who smartly agrees to go for a date with him only to be embarrassed with a public dress down at their rendezvous.

On her part, Akweni, as she is fondly known,  said the song is a guide to both men and women to show them that they have options to do right or wrong.

“If you look at the growing number of street kids, in part it is because of such behaviour. We have children who are suffering because of irresponsible parents,” she said.

The Julie series have over the years relayed various topical issues which are packaged in a comical manner. The narratives usually straddle between two characters-Maliseni, portrayed by Ane Matumbi and Julie his wife.
