George MapongaMasvingo BureauMASVINGO City Council has secured a new 5-hectare cemetery at Cambria Farm, on its western fringes, after its two existing facilities ran out of burial space.The country’s oldest town had two cemeteries at Lawn and Mangwandi, that have since filled up prompting the local authority to decommission them.Town Clerk Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa says a new burial place is now in place at Cambria Farm where council has already made the requisite preparations to start burials.“Lawn Cemetery is now full and decommissioned while at Mangwandi only limited space is available and is also as good as full and this prompted us to develop a new cemetery at Cambria Farm where we have a new facility for burials that is about 5 hectares in size,” he said.“’No burials have yet taken place at Cambria but everything is already in place, we have put all the required infrastructure for residents to inter their loved ones.
All the required amenities are now in place, and all new burials will now be undertaken there.”The city’s population has rapidly expanded over the past decade and is now estimated at over 150 000 residents.Leave a ReplyCancel reply
