Man rapes, impregnates stepdaughter

A Kuwadzana man was yesterday sentenced to 18 years in prison at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison after being found guilty of raping and impregnating his 15-year-old stepdaughter.The convict appeared before Harare magistrate Noel Mupeiwa, who ruled that the victim’s testimony was overwhelming and consistent with the evidence presented.Case DetailsAccording to prosecutor Cecilia Mashingaidze, the abuse began in August last year when the man approached the minor and demanded sex. When she refused, he threatened to chase her out of the house.The court heard that he went on to rape her repeatedly, approximately every three days, until the matter came to light after the girl fell pregnant.Her mother then assisted her in filing a police complaint, which led to the arrest and prosecution of the offender.SentencingIn delivering the sentence, Magistrate Mupeiwa emphasized the gravity of the crime, noting the psychological and physical trauma inflicted on the victim. The 18-year sentence was handed down as a deterrent to similar offenses and to reflect the seriousness of violating a child’s rights.
