A MAN allegedly struck his mother with an axe on the head, undressed the body, dragged and then dumped it in a disused toilet in a maize field. Nelson Zinyoro, 19, of Chihota Village, under Chief Mudzimurema, has since been arrested in connection with the death of his 52-year-old mother, Tambudzai Maruza. He even participated in the village search for his mother.
He is being accused of striking his mother on the head with an axe and she died instantly. According to the police, Zinyoro then undressed the body of his mother and, with the help of a friend, Gift Nyamadzawo (28), dragged the deceased into a disused toilet. The two are also suspected of burning the victim’s clothes.
Investigators say Zinyoro later retrieved his mother’s bedroom keys and took her goods with the intention of selling them. The items included solar panels, an inverter, two cellphones, and scotch-cart wheels. Zinyoro allegedly started selling the goods to villagers, which prompted suspicion in the community, and ultimately led to his arrest.

The family had reported Maruza missing on February 13. Zinyoro’s father also took part in the search alongside other villagers. Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Simon Chazovachii, confirmed the arrest and said police investigations were in progress.
