A man suspected of tampering with an electricity substation and causing a power outage in Mkondeni was arrested on Friday evening after sustaining severe burn injuries. According to Mi7 National Group, its teams were alerted by a petrol attendant at a local service station who reported a suspicious man sitting on the premises. Officers who were already patrolling the area responded and found a man with serious burn wounds, believed to have been caused by electrical contact.

The incident followed an earlier disruption to the electricity supply in the area, which had been attributed to a substation fault. “Further investigation revealed that the injured man was allegedly the suspect responsible for tampering with a nearby substation, which resulted in the power outage affecting the area,” it said Paramedics and police were called to the scene, and the suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment.
