Malete ignores BFA, thanks Letshwiti in parting note

Malete was expected to take charge of the Mares at the upcoming COSAFA tournament, but has now been relieved off his duties. Letshwiti gave Malete his big break in 2023 when the former BFA leader appointed him the Mares coach. In a Facebook post on Monday evening, Malete had special mention for Letshwiti but chose to omit the current leadership from his parting note.

“Today, my journey as head coach of the Mares comes to an end. It has been a true privilege to serve and lead this incredible team. I extend my sincere gratitude to the former Botswana Football Association president Mr.

Letshwiti for his trust and unwavering support throughout my tenure,” Malete said. “To the players, the technical team and the general manager- national teams, thank you for your dedication, passion and commitment. I am immensely proud of what we achieved together,” he added.

At press time, the BFA had not publicly announced Malete’s departure or his immediate replacement. The Mares are travelling to Limpopo for the COSAFA cup where they play their first game against Zambia on Thursday, before taking on Eswatini on Thursday. They round-off their group stage matches against Zimbabwe next week Tuesday.
