Getting yourTrinity Audioplayer ready…Estherine Fotabong, the Director for Agriculture, Food Security and Environmental Sustainability at the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), has called for a paradigm shift in the implementation of the Kampala Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) to ensure Africa’s Agricultural Transformation.She delivered the remarks today during the 21st CAADP Partnership Platform and 16th African Day for Food and Nutrition Security in Kigali, Rwanda.Fotabong said this year’s convening marks a historic milestone in Africa’s agricultural transformation journey.
From Maputo in 2003, where African leaders made the first major commitment to allocate at least 10% of national budgets to agriculture, to Malabo in 2014, which ushered in the era of accountability and delivery, CAADP has remained the backbone of Africa’s collective commitment to agricultural development and food security.“Yet, after two decades, our results remain mixed. While significant progress has been made, challenges of hunger, malnutrition, and rural poverty persist.
The next phase of the Kampala Declaration and its accompanying Strategy and Action Plan must mark a decisive shift from planning and commitment to delivery and measurable impact,” Fotabong said.The Kampala Declaration represents a bold continental commitment to build resilient, inclusive, and sustainable agri-food systems that will deliver zero hunger, equitable livelihoods, and environmental sustainability by 2035.Member States are now preparing to domesticate this vision through National Agri-Food System Investment Plans (NAFSIPs) aligned with CAADP’s targets.
