Maharaj, together with other media colleagues will race in selected circuits around the country that includes Killarney Raceway in Western Cape, Zwartkops Raceway just east of Tshwane, Redstar Raceway in Delmas, Mpumalanga, Aldo Scribante Raceway in Gqeberha and at the East London Grand Prix Circuit, amongst others. I am excited and honoured to be invited by Toyota Gazoo Racing to participate in the Media Cup Series. I am [obviously] cautiously nervous but the free practice sessions I experienced at Zwartkops recently went well and settled a few nerves.
I will be behind the wheel of the recently launched GR Yaris that is fitted with track-oriented modifications. “I am a huge fan of the Gazoo Racing Brand here and overseas and follow the World Rally Championships as well as the local rally scene very closely, so to drive one of the Gazoo Racing cars is an absolute honour,” said Maharaj. Racing around these circuits is always challenging as the racing lines are tight and with plenty fast corners.
The Redstar circuit is noted for go-karting so that in itself is another challenge racing cars around that track. As the 2026 Toyota Gazoo Racing season approaches, anticipation is building for another year of high-intensity racing, thrilling battles, and standout performances. With the Media Challenge moving to the GR Yaris, a highly competitive Dealer Challenge grid, and the return of the GR86 Development Academy, fans can expect an action-packed season filled with surprises.
