Round 2 of the Extreme Festival heads to the Red Star Raceway in Delmas, Mpumalanga in what will see some very tight racing in all categories. The Toyota Gazoo Racing teams in all three categories will be racing on a track initially designed for superbikes and go-karts and, from that alone, overtaking is going to be very difficult. Since its inception in 2009, Red Star Raceway has grown into one of the most respected circuits in the country.
The circuit has become a regular fixture on the Extreme Festival calendar, offering a technical and demanding layout that rewards precision and bravery in equal measure. This weekend’s event is set to add another layer of complexity, with cool and overcast conditions forecast and a high probability of rain across both Friday and Saturday. With practice scheduled for Friday, followed by qualifying and two races on Saturday, the weather could play a decisive role in shaping the outcome in all categories.
It’s very tight at the front but the middle of the pack sees a close battle with Justin Ford, Naresh Maharaj and Kumbi Mtshakazi. Maharaj finished the race in Killarney with a credible four points and will be looking to add to that this weekend. Red Star Raceway is known to be a very tight circuit and with weather prospects not looking good, this adds to the race being very challenging indeed. “There are thirteen corners and five straights in the 4km track, so preserving the left front tyre will be paramount.
