IN the past few weeks, there have been a number of headlines related to Prophet Magaya’s arrest. So, when news broke out yesterday that a man called Magaya had been arrested, the immediate assumption was that this was about the PHD leader. It didn’t help that the man who was arrested is from Waterfalls and he was nabbed in Chitungwiza.
However, it turned out that this HAD NOTHING to do with the prophet. Instead, this was about a Waterfalls man called Kudzanayi Magaya. He was arrested on Wednesday in connection with kidnapping and impersonation of police officers in Chitungwiza.
His three brothers — Tongayi, Never and Roderick Magaya — are also accused of the same crimes. They allegedly assaulted Tadiwanashe Kugotsi, 24, and Tafadzwa Chiyambira, 22, near Chigovanyika Shopping Centre in St Mary’s. Tongayi, Never, and Roderick fled the scene after the intervention of the local residents.

Tadiwanashe, who used to be Tafadzwa’s friend, was at his home when the Magaya brothers arrived in an Isuzu Twin Cab truck. The dispute is related to US$700, which was misappropriated. Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the arrest.
“Police arrested one of four brothers for kidnapping and impersonation. “The vehicle used by the suspects was recovered at the scene and brought to the police station.
