Forbes has once again recognised Skukuza Airport as the most beautiful airport in the world, celebrating its unique charm nestled in the heart of Kruger National Park. Skukuza Airporthas been named the most beautiful airport in the world by Forbes. Forbes initially highlighted Skukuza as the prettiest airport in the world eight years ago, and this week, Kruger Shalati celebrated the accolade in an Instagram post.
Situated within the iconicKruger National Park, Skukuza Airport is anything but ordinary. Kruger Shalati is just 4.9km away and offers complimentary transfers to and from Skukuza Airport, allowing for a seamless transfer from runway to river views. “Congratulations on this incredible global recognition – what a beautiful gateway to the wild”.
Skukuza Airport is the ultimate luxury airport with its thatched roof, wooden finishes, life-sized rhino replica, and sweeping bushveld views; it feels less like an airport and more like the first chapter of your safari story. Forbes, in the 2018 article, explained that Skukuza “ditches the classic airport look and embraces a luxury spa vibe instead,” which is warm, inviting, and the perfect send-off (or welcome) after days spent immersed in nature. Skukuza Airport’s branding and design were done by Grey Africa in Johannesburg; it has a heavy focus on using natural shapes and neutral colors.

“We were inspired by the African landscape, in colour, texture and form.” Grey explains. “We wanted the airport to feel as if it’s part of the veld that surrounds it.” Skukuza Airport is capable of handling 400 passengers per day, spread between 20 incoming and outgoing flights. There’s no overnight parking available, though there is an Avis car rental kiosk on-site Local airline Airlink is currently the only one with direct flights to Skukuza from Johannesburg and Cape Town.
