STRUGGLING ZIFA Eastern Region Division One side, St Paul’s Musami, received a major boost from an Indian businessman.Deepak Poddar, who specialises in medical and health services, unveiled a sponsorship package that will see the team receiving technical support, salaries and winning bonuses. The partnership will run for the remainder of the season.Poddar said:“I understand the history that this club has.“As we seek to work with St Paul’S Musami hospital, we also saw it fit that we give back to the community through sponsoring the team, which I understand has so much history.“And together, we can be part of history.“We have decided to come with a sponsorship package to ensure that our children are given security and support and ensure that this club will not be defunct.“I think sport also plays a key role in the government drive towards the fight against drug and substance abuse so we feel that with the salaries and winning bonuses we will play our part and support the government initiatives.”He added:“It is important that we revive the history of the club. What makes my association with the team more important is that this a team in a rural community.“I believe that rural areas also deserve development and, in terms of sport, we have a lot of talent that die a natural death because of lack of support.”The club got playing kits, training kits, transport and there will be payment for the players and technical teams.St Paul’s Musami are at the bottom of the ZIFA Eastern Region table.Club chairperson, Shephered Mahoko, said the arrival of Poddar, was major relief.“We have been living hand-to-mouth, we faced financial challenges which saw us having difficulties in fulfilling away matches.“I think the coming in of Mr Poddar will lift the morale of the team as he has promised salaries and winning bonuses to the team,” said Mahoko.
