LIFE Deliwe Matunzini, who was recently crowned Miss Uhuru 2024, says winning the inaugural beauty pageant ends the nightmare of a string of being second best.
She emerged as Miss UZ First Princess (2016), Miss Tourism Manicaland First Princess (2018), Miss Tourism Zimbabwe Second Princess (2018) and Miss Universe Zimbabwe top seven finalist.
She is currently working on representing Zimbabwe at the Top Model of the World in Egypt from May 10 to May 27.
The Miss Uhuru was held in Mutare during the National Dress Manicaland dinner, courtesy of Women4ED Manicaland province and Miss Uhuru Foundation.
In an interview with H-Metro, Matunzeni said:
“I started modelling when l was around five years with the first training meant for my then pre-school time at Fat Albert Centre in Mutare.
“The passion grew stronger from a young age and, in 2016, I went for Miss UZ and from there on it has been a beautiful journey.”
She added:
“I was working hard and praying that I would make it. The competition was tough with beautiful, intelligent young women from across the country.
“I am grateful l made it as one of the winners.
“It’s really an honour.”
She said her natural philanthropy trait will help her in her role as Miss Uhuru.
“I am a philanthropist and I believe in service, normally I love volunteering with organisations to better the lives of others.”
She said her role models were Caroline Buwu Marufu, former Miss Tourism Zimbabwe 2007, and Miss South Africa 2016, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene. She hailed efforts being made by the Tourism Ministry.
“I think Zimbabwe currently is on the right path in the modelling industry. Locally and internationally, we are thriving both in male and female pageants.
“We were well represented this year at the Miss Universe Pageant and Miss World, it’s only a matter of time but we are there already.”
