The recent opposition by the EFF in KZN to the Public Service Commission (PSC) Bill, along with the MK Party’s decision to abstain during portfolio committee proceedings, raises serious questions, particularly after overwhelming support from civil society, where participants strongly endorsed the bill’s objectives. The bill aims to strengthen the accountability ecosystem within public service and the professionalising of the state. It is designed to ensure an independent, impartial, professional and constitutionally compliant Public Service Commission, as envisaged in Section 196 of the Constitution.

It is a constitutional imperative. The DA will continue championing reforms that enhance merit-based appointments, reduce political interference and build a public service that truly puts KZN’s people first.
