The Witness“Our viewpoint” of February 17 on hunting quotas is a very sad reflection of the mindset of the leaders of this country. The modus operandi of the DA’s bid to remove former Environment, Forestry and Fisheries minister Dion George (who protected hunting trophy quotas), has now suddenly become crystal clear. With DA leader John Steenhuisen in an apparent tit-for-tat move, elephant, leopard and most controversially, Black Rhino, are now left at the mercy of trophy hunters as they are being included on the new quota trophy list.
This, no doubt, in anticipation of U.S. dollars, to the detriment of our wildlife heritage. (Existence?) My father and his brothers (four of them) were big on hunting.
In those days, Kudu bulls were the talk of the town. To shoot a Kudu bull, stuff the head and horns, was an unforgettable experience to any hunter. There is hardly an old farmhouse that does not have such a trophy.
