The launch of She Builds in KZN, the first women’s advisory body focused on construction and the building environment, is an historic event for our country. The brainchild of KZN’s Department of Public Works and Infrastructure MEC Martin Meyer, it shows that KZN’s government of provincial unity is a listening government that hears concerns and acts. The statistics cited by the MEC highlight an uncomfortable reality: That women, despite being qualified, remain excluded from economic opportunities.
