Letters | Kidnapping of Venezuelan leader

The same lies and tactics that justified the illegal invasion of Iraq in 2003 are now being used against Venezuela. This is brutal power hiding behind fake legality, weakening the global legal order and proving that rules exist only for the weak. No treaty, doctrine or UN authorisation allow for the kidnapping of a sitting head of state.

International law and human rights do not permit this unilateral enforcement. This selective, political “legalism” exposes the true nature of the assault: Fascist, lawless and unapologetically violent. Violating the prohibition on force sends one clear message that the powerful are above the law, and the weak are left to suffer.
