Listening to radio talk shows of late, I have been surprised by the number of callers expressing concern that Trump could pull a “Venezuela” on SA or on ruling African despots. There is no need to panic, the mission to extort Nicolás Maduro cost the U.S.
hundreds of millions of dollars and I very much doubt that Trump would throw precious revenue down the drain on an African despot, only for them to be replaced by another. Mother Africa, as much as we all love her, is a basket case due to deep-seated challenges such as inequality, tribalism, weak governance, infrastructure deficits and corruption. The list is endless and Trump is under no illusion as to the severity of the situation. Relax folks!
