It is difficult to believe that the Msunduzi Municipality has a functional parks and recreation department. The very purpose of such a department is to provide and maintain sports facilities, burial grounds, community halls and open spaces for the benefit of ratepayers and citizens alike. Yet what we see around us tells a different story.
Neglected graves, non-functional swimming pools, dilapidated halls, poorly maintained soccer fields and abandoned open spaces all point to a department that exists only in name. Ratepayers’ hard-earned money is squandered, while accountability is absent and staff appear to operate without oversight. Despite numerous complaints from the public, nothing has changed.
It is disheartening that management, whose intervention could transform this failing department into one that truly serves the community, seems indifferent. The lack of care and responsibility is both disappointing and unacceptable. Rawat Concerned Swimming Fraternity Bombay Heights
