KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli will on Thursday convene a two-day Provincial Cabinet Lekgotla aimed at sharpening the province’s development agenda and accelerating service delivery. The gathering, which will be held at the Archie Gumede Conference Centre in Durban, will bring together MECs, traditional leaders, mayors, councillors and heads of public entities to review progress on government programmes and map a co-ordinated response to persistent socio-economic challenges. According to the Office of the Premier (OTP) spokesperson Lindelani Mbatha, the Lekgotla will assess the implementation of national priorities, review KZN’s Economic Recovery Plan and consider measures to accelerate basic service delivery.
Discussions will also focus on strategies to tackle gender-based violence and femicide, which the government has classified as a national crisis. Premier Ntuli is expected to use his opening address on Thursday to outline the provincial government’s strategic priorities and set the tone for what Mbatha described as “solution-driven” engagements. Mbatha said the meeting would play a central role in aligning provincial programmes with broader national goals.
This Lekgotla provides an important opportunity for leadership across the province to reflect honestly on progress made, identify gaps and agree on practical interventions that will improve the lives of our people. Ntuli, who was elected in June 2024, will deliver his State of the Province (Sopa) on Friday next week at the provincial Legislature’s Pietermaritzburg buildings. The Sopa will be preceded by King Misuzulu kaZwelithini’s KZN Legislature opening address next week on Thursday. Mbatha said the two-day KZN provincial government Lekgotla will feature discussions around the province’s key challenges, including unemployment, natural disasters and crime and corruption.
