KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) has hailed the graduation of 50 Amakhosi from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) on Tuesday as a historic moment for the province. The Amakhosi graduation followed their completion of a one-year Leadership and Good Governance programme. Speaking at the graduation of the Amakhosi in Durban, Buthelezi said the skills learnt by the traditional leaders were of benefit to the communities they presided over.
“We can’t transform our communities unless we empower our leaders. The Amakhosi will use the knowledge and skills they received to drive development in their communities,” he said. The programme, which was launched in 2012, was at some point suspended before being revived by KZN Cogta last year.
